"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet." (Jesus said this in John 13:14)
Here at Tahmoor Baptist Church, all of our members are considered to be ministers in the sense that everyone is called to participate in God's plan of salvation as per Matthew 28:16-20.
The men and women forming our leadership team have been prayerfully elected by church members and serve in various areas of the church.
In a prayer-based team environment, they develop, inform and consult concerning the ministries God has placed on their hearts. The team then makes recommendations to our members for their prayerful endorsement.
Elders and Deacons, with their individual gifts and talents, serve our community with wisdom, diligence and care. Alongside our full-time Pastor, they make up the ministry team.
Meet our Pastor
Pastor Rev. Nigel Lyons
Rev. Nigel Lyons has a passion for the local church. His aim is to help people live lives of purpose and influence in a right relationship with God by encouraging them to build deeper relationships with Jesus and to live in a manner that attracts questions about faith, hope and love.
Nigel also understands what it is like to be a working man with a family. For a number of years, he was a nursery trades person and gained much experience as a member of the sales and marketing team of a large wholesale nursery.
Then God called him to ‘grow’ people, which meant studying for the pastorate. He received a Bachelor of Ministry degree from Morling Baptist Theological College while a member of Parramatta Baptist Church, preparing himself for ministry.
In January 2015, Alice Springs Baptist Church called him to be their Associate Pastor, and Nigel took his family to the Northern Territory. While there, he also completed a Graduate Diploma of Divinity and was granted full ministry accreditation by the Baptist Association of NSW/ACT. Mastering the challenges of a large church in a challenging environment trained him well for lifelong, fruitful service.
Nigel has been our full-time pastor since January 2018. He is married to Kate, and together they enjoy being parents of an active and creative six year old daughter. Nigel is also a gifted musician and often joins the music team for Sunday morning worship.
Does our pastor have any hobbies? Definitely! Playing music (of course), recording, motorsports, landscape photography, gardening, and exploring new ways to use a BBQ. When you meet him, you will find that he is personable and very easy to talk to.
