As part of our series, Light of the Word, today we explored the statement of Jesus where he said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" from John 14. Questions we asked today are "What is your destination and what is your place in life" In Jesus we have a destination and a place.

In John Chapter 10, we see two more "I am" statements of Jesus. The first being "I am the gate" and the second "I am the good shepherd." Here we need to grasp the context from that day in terms of deepening our understanding of what Jesus meant. It is also good to contextualise this from an Old Testament understanding as well.

Today we explore the scene of the Pharisees trying to trap Jesus with issues of the Law and Rome by using a person caught in a sinful act in John 8. Out of this we see how Jesus didn't condemn the woman and sent the Pharisees on their way. From this, we see observe one of the many reasons Jesus is the Light of the World.
Today, we explored the final part of John 6. This can be seen as a very sad part of Jesus' ministry with some followers walking away. However, we also see the trust of the true disciples in how they realise their reliance of Jesus as their sustainer of life.
Today, we continue with our series in John 6:25-51. Just like last week, we need to also understand the context for this statement out of the Exodus narrative. When the bread fell from heaven for the gift of life, how much does it mean when Jesus said "I am the bread of life."
As we journey through John 6, we see today the amazing narrative of Jesus walking on the water to where the discples are in a boat. We will also note how the the book of Exodus influenced one of the statements Jesus made.
We started John Chapter 6 today with the remarkable narrative of when Jesus fed over five thousand people. Whilst this narrative has been preached on many times, sometimes John 6:15 gets ovelooked. What we will find in this verse is how crucial this is to understand how people wanted Jesus to be their king under their terms. No wonder Jesus eventually withdrew to a mountain by himself.
We continued today in John Chapter 5:31-47 where we see the incredible interaction between Jesus and the religious leaders of that time and place. What is crucial about understanding this portion of Jesus' interaction is the list of testimonies that He lines up to testify on His behalf, revealing the works He was given to do from the Father.
Today we move forward in the series "Light of the World" with a focus on John 5:16-30. This passage will show us the special relationship Jesus has with His Father. It is from this relationship we can see the bigger picture of all the Father has given His Son to do. These passages tie so wonderfully together with previous chapters.

Whist Pastor Nigel is having a holiday, the Church Diaconate shares their hearts and words of encouragement and Scripture to the church today.
Whilst Pastor Nigel is on holidays, our Church Secretary, Geoff Cannon, shares some wonderful words of encouragement from Romans 12:2 and asks a very pointed question of "How are you at this time?"
Today we see the contrast from last week where a man from the height of society see his child healed by Jesus and this week where a man from the lowest of society is healed by Jesus. Maybe the Pharisees were infirm as well?
We continue today in the Gospel of John with an amazing interaction between a royal official whose child is gravely ill and Jesus. The official seeks Jesus' help with his child and believes the very words of Jesus. Have a read of John 4:43-54 as you watch the clip.
We continue with the amazing narrative of Jesus and the Samaritan woman in John 4. The important part of today's sermon is the steep learning curve of Jesus' disciples and how Jesus taught them about His mission. What does the harvest look like in your locality?
Pastor Nigel explores the narrative of a Samaritan woman's amazing encounter with Jesus at Jacob's well. And then he asks the question: 'What does it mean to worship in the Spirit and in truth?'
A very powerful sermon. |
